Why?

I will never understand why people are so caught up in themselves that they have to make something a friend is going through about them.

Why does Niki always have to make things about her? She lost the love of her life 15 years ago. She has gone through the process a lot longer than I have. She is 4 days younger than I am, she's supposed to be my sister. She cannot even read an email I sent, and not make it about her. I made some broad strokes general statements, and she sends me an email, screaming at me. When does she get it that my grief is not about her? When does she STOP placing herself in my situation, and making it about her?

I'm not going to find out because I have blocked her. I'm tired of the mess already.

I grew very aggravated when she sent me another email, and made what I said to her (which everything I said was a bunch of generalized statements) about herself, again. She couldn't get it that any type of example I brought up involving her was not personal so, I have walked away from my 30 year friendship because she cannot see past herself in order to help me.

Bravo.  Glad you blocked her.  I should do the same with my friend who always has to tell me I am grieving wrong or I shouldn't be grieving.

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
