Am I the only self-hater here?

I hate myself. It is something that I believe grew from repeated child abuse (usually at female hands). It is something that became a practiced part of my life and built up to self-injurious behavior…Continue

About Me:
43 year old male Englishman living in New York State for the last 14 years.
About my Loss:
My wife of 14 years died Jun 30th 2011. She had been chronically ill with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis since about a year before I met her. As life progressed she became sicker, developing nerve conditions, COPD and rheumatoid lung, diabetes and several other conditions. Given this her death was not a surprise, but for all that people think that makes it easier it doesn't.

Hi Stephen,

I feel for and with you now.  My brother died this past March, and it was not a surprise either.  It perhaps lessens the traumatic shock aspect of sudden deaths, but all the sadness, heaviness, lack of energy for life, are the same, I think.

I hope you can find a way to make it through these next days, weeks, months, etc.  I'm one that believes that "time" itself, doesn't do the trick.  I think some ritualized grieving practices helps, whatever they may be for you.  My brother's ashes are in another country, and I have no cemetery to visit, but I do other things - listen to music, look at his pictures, just take out some time to be with him again.  This helps me.

All the best to you at this sad time of your life.

Susan

Being the Other Woman/Other Man

This is for anyone who has lost their lover to death and you were the other woman/other man in their life. We have to grieve in silence. I can't find any support groups and feel like I'm the only one going through this situationSee More

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
