Grieving someone still alive?

I lost someone who is still alive. She was a staff member at a hospital I was at. It is a rule that a patient cannot contact staff for two years after your discharge. It has already been 8 months. …Continue

About Me:
19. Nursing Student. Struggling with Mental Health and Chronic Illness. Grieving the loss of someone still alive.
About my Loss:
Grieving the loss of someone still alive is so painful. I was in a residential treatment facility for over a year. I met some amazing people. One of the staff there got very close to me. She literally saved my life. Inevitably I was discharged after a year and 13 days. I saw her almost everyday for over a year and now I cannot see or talk to her for two years after discharge. (Just a HIPAA rule) It has been almost 8 months without her. I talked to her about everything. She knew everything about me. She was my person. She was just like me. She was even a nursing student like me. We talked about anything and everything. I miss her everyday and I am TERRIFIED that she will forget about me. I have a letter from her that I got the day I was discharged and she told me that she is going to miss me and how I gave her job purpose. So I know the feeling is mutual. But I am so afraid she will forget about me, and I have no way of knowing that. Not for two years anyways. When I really struggle, I just wish she was by my side. I know I do not need her to get by, but she was the person I went to for anything and everything for over a year and now, shes just gone.

Loss

It has been 8 months since I have talked to my person. I have 1 year and 5 months to go until I can talk to her again. I miss her everyday. I am terrified that she will forget me until then. I do not know what to do if she forgets me. I talked to her everyday for over a year, she was there and she saved my life. I miss her so much.

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
