Kim,

Your loss is so new...and fresh. The worse grief can be up to 5 years. I am also giving you another link http://www.carolkearns.com/. Carol was a professional grief counselor who mentored under Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. She lost her girl Krissie at 8 years old...she has many insights in her website.

For me this is my second child loss. I view things much differently than the first time around. Like you, my son was the "son of my heart."

Also, I can say that the manner of death of your child, your stage in life, relationship, support system, all make a tremendous difference in how you grieve. Especially with sudden death, it is hard.

I will also refer you to Franne Whitney Nelson web site. She is a professional thanatologist who has over 25+ years in grief and death counseling. Some of what is on her website would be useful, as she writes about sudden death.

Q. Does grieving ever end?

A. Grieving lasts for as long as you love the person who died. However, the most acute grief lasts from two to five years, depending on the manner of death, the person's age and their relationship to you.

It is a difficult time...full of ups and downs, feelings that you cannot even begin to explain, and we face a time when all we knew is gone. Please take time to be gentle with yourself...many thoughts and feelings will come and go. I myself have found the group at grieving.com to be very insightful as well...

How you feel, is just how you feel...

....sending prayers and gentleness...

Laurie

Being the Other Woman/Other Man

This is for anyone who has lost their lover to death and you were the other woman/other man in their life. We have to grieve in silence. I can't find any support groups and feel like I'm the only one going through this situationSee More
