About Me:
I am 54 years old, was married for 33 years. I have 2 daughters who are on their own in different states and very supportive. My husband and I relocated from NYS to NC in 2010. We planned to start a new life in the south. We stayed there for 1 year and moved back to NYS in 2011 to be near family.
About my Loss:
My husband was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2011. We were in NC, living a dream of his to start a new life in the south. We moved back to NYS in Sept. 2011. He died at home with hospice care in Nov. 2011. He was buried 2 days before our wedding anniversary and 1 week before his 55 birthday.

Hi Carol, Im really sorry you are dealing with the same pain I am.  To answer your question about making big changes, one of the last conversations I had with my husband was one on this subject.  He made me promise to not make any big changes for the one year.  I promised, I told him I would be ok, I promised to be ok and within hours the cancer took control of his brain and we had to keep him medicated and asleep for his own good.  He passed in that drugged sleep 18 hours later.  I think he needed to know everything was in place for me and then he let go.  So I will stay in this house, keep his truck, but there is no rule saying when you feel ready you cant change your situation. I believe we have to trust ourselves enough to know what is right for us.  As long as you are not feeling pressure from some other source, do what you feel is right

I've heard not to make any big changes for 1 year after a loss.  Is it true?  We moved south for 1 year and came back to be with family at the end.  He passed in Nov 2011.  We had our house for sale and it didn't sell.  I'm thinking of moving out of our house, it has too many memories.  I'm thinking about starting over at a new place.  Is it too soon to make a decision?

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
