Moving Through the Seven Stages of Grief

When a heart breaks, you’re left gasping for air. After a while you seem fine, yet fall apart unexpectedly at random moments, sanity seemingly forsaken. There’s a saying that when a heart breaks, it cracks to allow golden love to shine through onto others. Do you see the value in going through this?It may not feel like it now, but grief is an honor. It is an honor to feel that much, to have loved that much. It teaches you compassion, gratitude, resilience, and the importance of grabbing life by…See More

The Importance of Sympathy Cards

It may seem insignificant or outdated to write a sympathy card to someone who is grieving, however sympathy cards are one of the most powerful ways to show someone how much you care. Through the years it has been common practice to write sympathy cards to the family and friends of someone we know when they pass away. They continue to send a powerful and encouraging message serving as a reminder of love in the midst of loss. Writing a sympathy letter can be a difficult task. Everyone grieves…See More

You can’t plan when, how, or why life ends, but you can help your friends and family in making pre passing arrangements. Doing so allows your loved ones to focus on grieving your loss, taking the stress away from the post life planning process.Even after passing, the impact of making pre arrangements allows for your family to rest assured they are honoring your legacy how you want to be honored.…See More

Encouragement While Navigating Grief

When a heart breaks, you’re left gasping for air. Time begins to heal but grief continues. There’s a saying that when a heart breaks, it cracks to allow golden love to shine through onto others. It may feel like a never ending cycle, but grief can be viewed as an honor. The Wheels on (My Grief) Bus Go Round and Round...

New Year - 2025!At the start of the year I returned to Thailand for another medical mission.  This was my fourth trip for this and I was somewhat ready/prepared for the heightened emotions.  Not sure why...no real connection to Jen or her accident, but in the past these trips offer some extended alone time, away from others, away from people that speak the same language and as such seem to bring the thoughts back to the forefront.  Strangely, the same levels of emotionality were not there.  Not…See More

"Dottie, do you find the anniversary dates to still be as emotionally difficult as the first couple times?  I find that some years, it is very fresh and raw, others almost (almost) slip by without fanfare."

My husband passed away

My husband passed away last Saturday after a long illness. His memorial service is next week. We have three boys, ages 14, 11, and 6. I'm glad I found this place. It seems to be a place of great caring and support. I actually registered here a while before my husband's passing, as I was grieving for his loss after he entered a nursing home. He had been there since the end of 2008, after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease in 2006 and deteriorating quickly. He was only 58 when…See More
