Losing Someone to Cancer

This is for anyone who has lost somone to cancer. I lost my adopted Mom to breast cancer some years ago. She was everything I could have asked for. She loved me because I was just me. She also loved my family and children as if they were her own.

Thanks so much, Mary. I have one friend who has said it seems disrespectful, but I do not see it that way. I am simply asking her to honor Mark's wishes that he did not have a chance to put into writing. And she knows our history and all about our life together, so I am hoping she does the "right" thing.  :)  It's a real blessing to hear you say kind words and give me encouragement.  Thanks!

Vicky1 I have to say I think it is brave of you to write to mark's mum and I applaud you. I sincerely hope that it works out for you. My husband actually had his will updated from his hospital bed so that there could be no misunderstandings. I pray that Marks mum will agree that giving you the money would be what Mark would have wanted. Hugs & blessings

Toyanne I am so sorry for your very recent loss. My heart goes out to you. I know I was in shock for a long time and I am sure you feel that way too. This is an awesome group of people who have all list loved ones and can truly understand the emotions you are going through. They were my life line and many have become good friends. Hugs & prayers coming out to you.

Group members, I took a bold stance this weekend when I mailed a letter to the mother of my fiance who died in January. to catch everyone up:  Mark had cancer, was doing much better, suddenly they found cancer again and he was gone from us within a week. Mark had a million dollar plus estate.  He had no children, etc.  He had made a simple will the day we learned he had "six months or less" and he named his mom (who is 80) executor and his only heir. At that time he told me he would be telling her what he wanted given to everyone etc...but he didn't live long enough to do that.   So, this weekend I mailed her a letter from my heart telling her what Mark and I had discussed that he would do for me and asking her to honor his wishes. Basically, it's a request for $80,000 to finish paying for my condo. I asked politely, and I reminded her of our plans to marry this very month, if he had lived.  I ask that all of you pray for her sense of fairness and what is right. Mark would not have wanted me to be left out.......he made that clear verbally.  Thank you!

Hi Toyanne, first, I am so very sorry for your recent loss, and second, I am so glad that you have decided to share with our group.  Like you, we have lost loved ones to cruel cancer and are going through much of the same emotions that you do. Please know that we care and we are here for you!

Thanks Barb and everyone else.  Today is the two month anniversary of Mark's passing.  I just can't believe that he is gone. But I know I am not alone and that all of you are feeling very similar things, and it helps to know that.  Blessings to all!

I got the refund today from the wedding planner in Florida; I can't believe that Mark has been gone two months!  I can't believe there will be no beach wedding.......I thank God for His comfort and pray for all of you who join me in this time of grief.

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
