What is and what could have been

I constantly think about the timeline where you are here – what if you were here in this moment, doing this with me, sharing this, talking, laughing together. I contrast it to the moment as it is, without you, my whole life without you. I've wondered why I do that, and asked if I'm just trying to torture myself. But I've felt like there's something there, something to see. Maybe it's a way to try to grasp your loss – the enormity of it, and what it did to me, what it did to my life. And I've…See More

Waiting For the Miracle, by Leonard Cohen

Nothing left to do when you know that you've been taken. Nothing left to do when you're begging for a crumb. Nothing left to do when you've got to go on waiting for the miracle to come..When you've fallen on the highway and you're lying in the rain, and they ask you how you're doing of course you'll say you can't complain. If you're squeezed for information, that's when you've got to play it dumb. You just say you're out there waiting for the miracle to come..See More

About Me:
There is a road, no simple highway,
between the dawn and the dark of night.
And if you go, no one may follow.
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
where there is no pebble tossed,
no wind to blow..

– "Ripple", Jerry Garcia

Not I or anyone else can travel the road for you. You must travel it for yourself.

About my Loss:
My girlfriend Jan, who would have been my wife, died in a car accident in October 1979, when she was 17 and I was 18, and I haven't allowed myself to grieve for her until now. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 14.

More quotes from Hermann Hesse

I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value. Neither for myself nor for others will I ever abandon this belief.

Dear Craig,

I just came upon your blog and I could not agree with you more. That we must become so alone, so utterly alone, that we withdraw into our innermost self. I got divorced 3 years ago after a 20 relationship ended with my heart being shreaded. I lost everything in the divorce because he made bad decisions. After crawling my way out of that hole, my only parent my mom passed away June 26, 2012. She was all I had. This past year I have been ALONE. It has been a very spiritual jouney. If you would like to write you can contact me on my personal e mail at sue@animalrescuecoalition.org  Sue

Helping young children remember

My mom died suddenly on April 6, 2013. My 2 1/2 year old son and her simply ADORED each other. He lit up for her differently than he did for anyone else, and vice versa. I cannot adequately describe how much they loved each other, and how much I loved seeing it. My second son, who she will never meet, is due July 1.I am very bitter and sad that my children won't know this amazing woman. I know that because of his young age when she died, my oldest son probably won't remember her or how much…See More
