About Me:
I have been divorced since January 2001. I have two single daughters, 30 and almost 26. Oldest in medical school; youngest in graduated school. I have no grandchildren. I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters. I am the oldest child.
About my Loss:
I just lost my mom at 77 years old on June 17, 2016. It was an unexpected loss. My mom's first stroke was in June 2015; she had brain surgery to clean the blood and look for any tumors. The outcome of this stroke left her with dementia. She then had 2 TIAs within a year. After the 2nd TIA, cardiologist at a different hospital told us my mom had a hole in her heart, which we had just found out it was from birth. No other cardiologist had ever mentioned she had a hole in her heart. Cardiologist recommended repair of her heart. Eventually, we all agreed for my mom to have heart surgery. On June 13, 2016, my mom had surgery at 1 p.m. She was given blood thinners during surgery; otherwise, she would have a blood clot. She was then brought to her room and ate. My mom began having difficulty speaking. She complained of chest pain. She then vomited and went into a coma. Shorly after, she had a CAT scan, which revealed a huge brain hemorrage. We all agreed for blood to be removed. She underwent another surgery, 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. same day of heart surgery. Neurosurgeon told us my mom was in a vegetative state. There was a chance she was going to have more strokes and heart attacks. She did have 3 more strokes and a heart attack while in a coma 2 days after. We had to let her go on June 17th. My mom had a horrible husband (my dad) who physically and verybally abused up until she was 74; tried to kill her with a gun a couple of times. I witnessed horrible things done to my mom by my dad since I can remember. My mom's children were her happiness. I am having a very difficult time dealing with my mom's loss. Feel guilty for putting her through so much when agreed to the heart surgery, which lead to her death. I don't have my siblings' support. Each of them is dealing with his/her own pain.

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
