I wonder if I'm alone in this one. I know a lot of people here have lost parents but I wonder if I'm the only one who has lost both. Car accidents and such will sometimes take both parents but I wonder if anyone has lost a parent, held onto the second one so dearly, then lost them too. I'm an only child and I have no one to share my experience with. It's a heavy load and wanted to see if anyone else has a similar one to carry.

I've lost both as well. It's an awful feeling isn't it? I'm sorry for your loss...hope you can find some peace.

I lost my father when I was 8 years old. This resulted in my being even closer to my mother than I think I would have been otherwise. I was blessed to have had her in my life for another 40+ years, until she passed on Sept. 3, 2011. I feel orphaned - which is pretty silly if you consider my age. It is never easy to lose a parent.

I feel orphaned too and am in my forties. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thank you both. I lost my father when I was 12 and my mother when I was 15. They were difficult losses to take at such a delicate time in life.

You are not alone.I lost my father when i was 23 i was in the middle
of my college final year exams he was 61. I am in my early 30's
and just lost my mom 3 weeks ago she was 64.

Assumptions

An assumption is an unexamined belief: what is thought to be true without ever really realizing that we think in that way. For better or worse, understanding starts with entertaining the idea that something is true.  Truly profound thoughts generally come to light from the relaxation of these (flawed) assumptions.  This is where I find myself today...Perhaps, one of the more significant drivers to pushing down the loss and grief at the time of the accident, ignoring it and mindlessly walking…See More
